Chapter Five
Frowning down at me, he wasn't sure. I could see it in his eyes. If I didn't convince him I didn't care what we did, he'd write off his dreams completely. I knew he probably wouldn't be miserable. He'd probably find a way to live happily in the same house for the rest of our lives if I so chose it. But I'd be miserable. Not because I didn't want to be with him. And not because I didn't think I was well and truly on my way to loving him in the tiny amount of time that we knew each other. But because I'd always know that he'd given up everything for me.
"A lot of people would probably have invested it," he said, reasonably, but I could see a spark of hope flaring in his eyes, making me smile.
"And I still might some of it. But, I've never really wanted to be super rich, and if I run out of money, I'll just go back to work," I said, shrugging. It was true too. I didn't really care about money beyond needing the shit to survive. "I don't hate working. I just wasn't sure if it was my future. But what I don't invest, I'd maybe like to use to travel. If you wanted to travel with me? Like I said before, I don't know what other big plans you had, but maybe we can find a way to do them together."
His smile was gorgeous, taking my breath away and my fingers spasmed in the thick muscles of his back.
Damn, he was built. I was dying to see him without his shirt on. His body was amazing even through the material, and I couldn't seem to quit running my hands up and down the delicious musculature of his back.
"Traveling was pretty much it," he said, his voice deep and rich and I blinked, struggling to remember what I'd said to him. Did I ask him a question? "And, just so we're clear, I knew I was in trouble the moment I saw you. I knew, whatever happened, I wasn't going to be able to walk away from you, Marshall."
Licking my lips, I closed my eyes for a second, forcing my hands to still. "Wow. Okay," I said when I finally remembered what the hell was going on. "So, this is maybe an option for you then?"
"I honestly never thought about taking someone along because I never thought there would be anyone else who wanted just to go. Most people like the stability of a permanent home."
I slid my hands down his back and then up under his shirt, needing to feel his skin against my palms, and loving his soft growl. Loving even more the way his hips finally came forward, pressing against me.
He was blessedly hard, and I ground my erection against his thigh, whimpering at the exquisite feel of something so simple. We were still fully clothed, and already I was close.
I lifted my chin, presenting him with my lips, needing his mouth on mine.
